Transforming Spaces: Poltrona Frau's New Flagship Store on Madison Ave

Cuono Engineering is pleased to announce the successful completion of Poltrona Frau's new flagship store on Madison Avenue earlier this year. The stunning transformation of the 19,000 square foot retail space marks a new chapter in the rich history of both Poltrona Frau and the iconic Madison Belmont Building.

The Madison Belmont Building, a Neoclassical architectural gem featuring Art Deco elements, was designed by renowned architects Warren & Wetmore in the early 20th century. The base, comprising the lowest three stories of the facade, contains iron-and-bronze showroom frames, grilles, and doors designed by Edgar Brandt.  In collaboration with AMDL CIRCLE and FROM Architecture, the project, which commenced in 2022, involved the renovation of these lower three levels within the building, seamlessly integrates the building's interior architecture with bespoke furnishings that reflect the timeless elegance and craftsmanship synonymous with the Italian luxury furniture brand.

Cuono Engineering provided services for the design of various structural modifications to the building's lower floors which involved the design and installation of a new elevator and shaft, new stairs and infill framing for the existing abandoned stairs. The new stair to the lower level was brought over from Italy and required tight coordination so that it connected properly to the building structure. Our scope also included the design of a structure for the new 2,100 SF raised floor area at the entry level,  which is flanked by a custom floating shelf system, creating a separate sales area to showcase the company’s material library to clientele.
