Construction is moving along on the first phase of the renovation to Chabad of Port Washington with both the egress and monumental stairs in place! The monumental U-shaped winder stair will connect the Hebrew School's 1st and 2nd floor internally, while the egress stair will provide an exterior passageway from the Hebrew Schools 2nd floor to the 1st floor Mikvah along the building's southern street level vestibule. The egress stair will be highlighted through a glass curtainwall creating a stunning focal point that will complement the new façade.
In collaboration with James Thomas Martino Architect and Andco Contracting, the overall renovation project focuses on both the internal functionality of the building as well as the exterior appearance. Cuono Engineering has been contracted to design the structural renovations for the existing building, starting with the first phase of a monumental new stair and LULA lift between the 1st and 2nd floors. This phase involves modifications to the existing framing and foundations to accommodate the new stair opening and shaft. The second phase of the project focuses on various exterior façade modifications that will enhance the overall look and functionality of the building.
