On Friday, September 15th, a group of our Cuono Engineering team rolled up their sleeves, put on their hard hats, and set off to Bridgeport, CT to help in the construction of a residential building with Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County. Our team spent the day on-site at a new two-story duplex; each unit having four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full basement with inside and walk-out access.
The need for larger homes with more bedroom space is becoming common as many families are also taking care of older parents or relatives. With accessibility in mind, many homes, such as the one we worked on are built with a bedroom and full bath on the first floor.
Although the majority of the framing was already constructed, Cuono spent the day helping with painting the exterior siding as well as continuing with the siding installation around the house. As a structural engineering firm, we spend our time designing the foundations and bones of what will eventually be constructed. This experience truly gives an appreciation for the time it takes to construct and finish a building, while also feeling proud that you've helped in contributing to what will become someone's brand new home.
